I have liked and been intrigued with the Bronco Sport since it was first introduced. But at the time I had no need for a new vehicle so I basically admired it from afar.

That changed four months ago when I was faced with needing a new vehicle. I considered a short list of candidates--a varied collection--but, admittedly, the Bronco Sport was pretty much what I was most interested in.

So last October, after going to take a close look and test driving it twice, I pulled the trigger on a 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend. I lucked out, too, because my local Ford dealer (Riverside Ford in Brockville, Ontario) had one not only equipped almost exactly as I wanted, but also in the very colour I wanted, Hot Pepper Red Metallic.

The one piece of equipment it had I wasn't looking for was the trailer-towing package, but everything else was spot one including the optional 18in. alloys wheels.

Now it's been four months, and while I expected to like my new Bronco Sport I was a bit surprised I like it even more than expected. It has not only been pretty much what I had hoped for, but in some respects it has exceeded my expectations.

I won't go into all the things I like because they would no doubt be familiar to so many of the Bronco Sport owners here. But there are few key things that really resonate for me.
- I really like the size of this vehicle, not too big or too small--just right.
- I like the easy of entry and exit and the comfortable upright seating.
- I like the good visibility outward all-around.
- I like how the dash is clean and not over-designed.
- I like how the info screen isn't oversized like so many other vehicles.
- I love how I can control the most used everyday things without going through the screen (which I only use for music)
- A subtle and silly thing, but I really like the view forward over the bulges on the hood.
- I like the steering and I really like the tight maneuverability.
- I really like driving my Bronco Sport and I always look forward to taking it on the highway.

This was a bit of an adjustment for me as I was coming from a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria which I had modified over the years. A very nice, clean and very cool car, but its time was done and I had to move on. I still think about my CrownVic, but you can't ignore a forty year difference in engineering and technology. My CrownVic was great in so many ways, but my Bronco Sport feels like a sportscar in comparison.

I had considered the other Bronco Sport models, particularly the Badlands. But in the end my choice fell to a silly thing perhaps--I simply like the look of the body-colour roof of the Big Bend better. I think it just looks more finished. I would have liked body-colour door handles, but whatever. And I have zero complaints about the 1.5 litre--I never feel it lacking for power. Around town it feels quick, agile and very maneuverable and on the highway it gets up to speed easily and feels very stable and composed.

The day I brought it home.

I admit I didn't buy this for off-roading. I like the look of it, its comfort, convenience and flexibility, and it's fun to drive. And I'm looking to make a few upgrades.
- Upgraded 18x8 or 18x8.5 wheels with stickier 235 tires.
- Upgraded sport exhaust for a sportier sound.
- K&N air filter
- Redline hood struts instead of the manual prop rod.

I do have a few minor nitpicks. On the Big Bend the audio controls on the steering wheel doesn't have a control to go to the next song selection on the info screen. While the rear hatch isn't heavy and is easy to use it might be nice to have a remote feature for when your hands might be full. I mentioned the manual hood prop rod, which a lot of vehicles have, but in this day and age it's ridiculous and doesn't save much weight to not have pneumatic hood struts.

The one thing I thought I might have some issue with turned out to be a complete non-issue: the rotary dial gear selector. Years ago I had driven a Ford Fusion 2.0L with AWD (very nice car) that had the rotary gear selector and I had found it odd to get used to. But in my Bronco Sport I've found it falls readily to hand, easy to use and I never give it a thought.

I'll be sure to share pics when I do the upgrades.

Welcome, Looks good, enjoy the red ride.
I have a 2021 Badlands, its been decent, only a couple of issues in 37000 miles, I have some other vehicles as well.
I also had a Crown Victoria, it was a P71 ex DEA car, it was the best $4900 car I ever had, I drove it to a little over 300,000 miles and sold it. I miss it, people would move out of the way on the highway, you could park anywhere and nobody would care or mess with it, it was like being law enforcement without being law enforcement.

Hi Ray, your Bronco Sport looks fabulous in the red. Congratulations on the purchase !
Thanks!

If I hadn’t scored with the Hot Pepper Red I might have gone for the Velocity Blue as at the time they had one equipped the same way. On the other hand if I hadn’t been able to make an acceptable deal for the Bronco Sport I had a backup plan for a different vehicle I had my eye on. Convenience played a part given I had a local Ford dealer nearby, but I would have had to go out of town for my backup choice: a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta Sport with manual transmission in Kingsman Red (I had mentioned my list of candidates was varied).

It’s funny because when I was younger I never envisioned myself buying a Ford because at the time in the ‘70s and onward domestic cars were largely not on my radar. But my father owned Fords most of his life.
- ‘57 Ranchero in green and white (I don’t remember this car firsthand as he traded it the year I was born)
- ‘59 Custom 300 sedan in blue
- ‘66 Galaxie 500 2dr. fastback in black with red interior (really nice car)
- ‘73 Mercury Meteor sedan silver anniversary edition in silver
- ‘93 Mercury Grand Marquis LS in Twilght Grey (Dad called it Twilight Zone)
- ‘04 CrownVic LX in Spruce Green (the car I inherited when Dad passed away in 2017)

Dad’s one exception was his ‘86 Volkswagen Golf Wolfsburg Edition 4dr. with 5spd. manual. He quite liked it, but went back to big car with the ‘93 Grand Marquis. His two Mercury’s were my least liked of those he owned. I learned to drive on the ‘73, but that thing was a boat to drive. The ‘93 was plush and I didn’t care for the overdose of fake chrome and the front and rear styling. The ‘04 CrownVic was a much cleaner, better looking car even if the same platform.

I like to think Dad would have liked my Bronco.

Dad’s ‘59 Ford in 1965 in south eastern Quebec visiting mt grandparents. We woke up to find the car buried in snow except for the radio antenna.

Hi Ray. Nice to see another Canadian (and Ontarian) on the site. Enjoy your Big Bend. I've had my Badlands for 1.5 years and I love it. One thing about upgrading the exhaust, there are some threads on here where people upgraded their exhaust and it turned out to be very loud while cruising on the highway, too loud for some. Keep that in mind when thinking about the exhaust.

Very aware. I had a Stainless Works dual exhaust on my CrownVic, but I also had the Stainless Works headers as well, and headers are not something I’d want for my Bronco.. I’m not making the jump impulsively. I’m trying to find out everything I can before making a choice. Presently I’m leaning towards Borla or MBPR.

Welcome to the loony bin! There a virus with the Sports have I feel compelled to advise you of which is called modificationaronus. Once infected by it, the urge to modify your rig is relentless. Luckily, there are numerous practitioners to help quell the symptoms like Rough Country, PeddleMax, 5-Star Tuning, JCR, Flowmaster, afe, and the list goes on. Good luck and enjoy your new rig!

Me too! My Pony is fabulous! I love driving it and haven't enjoyed a vehicle as much since my 1976 MG Midget convertible or my 280 Z! Yes, all very different, but my dad was into cars as well. As for your audio, mine works great (as above from cprcubed) as well. Mine is like yours, but in the Cactus Grey. I guess the only things I would have liked to have would be a heated/AC steering wheel and AC seats and a forward camera (I can never get the distance to the "stop curb" correct, so I am always halfway out in the parking lot). Welcome to the jungle! All of these guys are incredible and extremely helpful!

Okay. I thought those were for the phone. I’ll try it out later today.

One other little nitpick: the heated seats heat only the seat cushion and not the backrest, or am I missing something?
