Probably will end up being May 4th. May 3rd will be exactly 5 years of ownership for me. So if Ford honored the original paperwork that said 5 years of updates were included with the system, of course it would naturally come out the day beyond 5 years!!

My 21 OB had 3 years of opportunities to update the maps. After that, I paid $109.00 for the digital download.

Vehicle delivered with version NA 1 19
NA 2 20 No charge (released 2021)
NA 2 21 No charge (released 2022)
NA 2 22 No charge (released 2023)

NA 2 23 paid (released 2024)
NA 2 24 paid (released 2025)

I like to keep my vehicle up to date.

For my 2022 Badlands, I also have Ford paperwork stating 5 years of Ford Nav Maps updates included but I received 3 updates plus the OE Nav Maps provided by the factory:

Nav Maps NA 2 23 (free: 05/17/2024)
Nav Maps NA 2 22 (free: 08/14/2023)
Nav Maps NA 2 21 (free: 10/27/2022)
Nav Maps NA 2 20 (OE: Jan 2022)

I could have pushed it with Ford to get the 5 years but was not worth my time.

I don't even remember seeing how many years I'd get. Maybe something changed with the '23s.

I really don't use it but it's nice to have, especially when I'm out of cellular service.

I have a 2025 and I only had the one year and that was it. So I was debating on whether I would get it or not because I know I can use AA navigation. However, for the same reason you stated above, I wanted a back up for times when we are out in the middle of nowhere (which happens frequently when we are traveling from Arizona to Nebraska). I know, I can download the maps for the trip, but I never do. I don't think about it until I am in no-coverage areas.

Are you able to use the “outdated” maps without paying or do you lose access?

I cannot tell you, because I paid for it. I haven't had a laspe in coverage.

The only thing I haven't paid for, which was due this month, was the Connectivity Package. It says it is for streaming, enhanced Alexa, etc, etc. I have not found a reason for that. They same for the AT&T hotspot connection. I saw no reason for that as well. I haven't seen anything that the system is telling me I cannot do because I didn't pay for the Connectivity Package (I may not be using the correct name for it).

Nah, it operates. It just won't know if a new road is built or a roundabout was added. That will be more or less of a problem depending on where you live and how much you rely on the "lane guidance" part of the navigation. It won't feature traffic and live data unless you additionally pay for a Sirius traffic subscription. It's wild what these services cost in that Google does both things for free daily in exchange for all your personal info.

Now you jinxed it. There will be a message today stating they are increasing their prices from free to $80 a year, like they did with my Youtube Premium, Youtube TV, and whatever else. :(

They announced a new CEO to replace Tim Apple. So anything is possible. It's like when Costco replaces theirs and all the hot dog fans collectively pucker up a little bit over the $1.50 combo.
