I'm pretty sure Sport Mode is for dry non slippery roads for better performance. You do have Slippery Mode which IMO would be best in the Snow but it cuts the Power Back IMO so you aren't slipping and sliding.

Interesting question. I had a Subaru Justy 4WD 5MT in the late 80’s. had about 90 hp, but was light and fun. In the snowy Pocono Mountains of PA, I would Rally that car everywhere! Coming to a corner, mash the gas, get it to slip and control the slide through the corner. Adjust slip angle with either steering of right foot applications. Lots of smiles!

I don't think there is one right answer for that. Its gonna depend on the driver, type and depth of snow, road conditions, even trim level.

If you have the skills and want to play, Sport is probably fine but we just had a nationally sized storm, with people who had never driven in snow before.

I certainly wouldn't recommend using sport mode, with its more aggressive throttle response to them.

It depends on the type and depth of ghe snow. Sometimes Sand mode is preferred to be able to power through wet snow without the power being cut. That will happen in slippery mode.

All I can say is that at Off-Rodeo we used Sport mode almost exclusively for all challenges. With selective use of the 4x4, rear-diff, traction control, turned on and off, etc.

Hey Corey , like Davexx said it all depends on your skill levels. Seems in your state you undoubtedly would have been raised on driving in snowy conditions so you probably have appropriate skills compared to a driver from a tropical climate. In my case I use normal mode for almost all driving except when road is snow covered , in which case I use “slippery mode” which reduces throttle response, and has milder downshifts.

I thought on the Outer Banks and lessor models AWD only engages in slippery and sand modes.

it’s always in auto AWD, the different modes provide variations the computer can apply to throttle, braking and shifting.
So it is an on demand system.

Well of course Off Rodeo stays in Sport Mode. It just sounds so much more fun when you are in it and aren’t they all there for the adrenaline fun!
