iPhone 16Pro Not Playing Nice with Radio

I recently got a new iPhone 16 Pro and it seems to be at odds with my stereo (‘23 OBX). If I don’t hook up the CarPlay in just the right order it won’t work, and today the whole system froze, even after I shut the car off and opened the door to completely shut everything down. I did a factory reset when I got to work but haven’t had time to do anything else. I’ll have to re-program all of my Sirius stations and settings, which makes me really cranky.

Is it possible that the current ios for my phone has anything to do with it (I’m running 18.4.1)? I don’t remember where I read/heard it, but somewhere I remember something being said about iPhones not playing nice with the Bronco Sports‘ stereo systems. I looked through various posts but couldn’t find anything.

You need to first post a screenshot of the Sync 3.4 version you are on, follow these steps:

To find your Sync 3.4 Build Version (do not scan for updates):

Select SETTINGS tab, then
Select GENERAL tab, then
Select ABOUT SYNC tab

And to answer your question about iOS 18.4.1, there are isolated reports but it’s not a widespread issue, here’s one such report:

There’s more reports but again this seems to impact only some iPhones (not sure why)

Perform a Google search as shown but 18.4.1 has fixed some issues but not for all iPhones and CarPlay

I'm running iOS 18.5 beta on a iPhone 16 Pro Max with a wireless CarPlay module with zero issues. I highly recomend the new wireless CarPlay modules so much better than plug-n-play. I have been using the Ottocast one in photo for over a year with zero issues. You can get it on Amazon.
