I finished my bike mount project today. I made it out of extra material I have laying around the house. I bought the mounts from Amazon cheapest I could find @ $12.55 each. I still need to road test it to make sure it stays put. I plan on getting straps to hold down the bike

I have the Yakima inside one and the straps hook to the D-rings to further secure the part on yours that’s carpeted. Nothing straps to the rest of the bike. Rides pretty solid. Great job in the DIY style!!

That's the same one I made except I never painted the wood. It's very stable, no straps required. I like this DIY version better than the Yakima as the fork ends sit lower to the floor for better ceiling clearance and stability.

It’s actually not painted, I added carpet for a softer touch. I also just got the 2nd row rubber panels. Which will come in handy once I start biking again this year. The back bike tire wanted to go into that crack between the 40/60 split during testing which is why I wanted to strap it down.

I always put mine upside down and ran a 5/16 threaded rod between the two bike forks with plastic washers and thumb wing nuts. Then crisscrossed bungees to the corner loops in the back corners. Back tires bungeed to headrests. Worked great for 16 years.

Here is mine in the Badlands. Actually bigger than the Escape! I’m pleasantly surprised. Back wheels bungeed to the child seat bars.

I guess it is an option as long as you are always hauling these 2 bikes and have 45 minutes for the rigging.

That’s pretty a pretty cool way to transport them @ Escape2Bronco .
It wouldn’t have occurred to me to turn it upside down . Smart!

I had to modify my design. I added a piece of wood on each end. Painted black. The original design was to thin. It kept on flipping when I hit a bump. Went on a ride today. It did not flip. The bike is also more stable. No need to bungee cord it down anymore. Still have to test my design with two bikes.

My wife won’t let me go alone anyways! One in the center works but not as stable as two. Takes more time to remove the front wheel than it does to rig. Just 6 bungees and a threaded rod.

I'm going to get the modular Yakima setup that swings out, can be for bikes like this, lockable boxes, baskets to tie down cargo. Can't think of the system name right now, but should be easy to find. I think it fits two bikes. I like the modular idea, change things around depending on need.
On my Tacoma I have a swing out from Thule, also great, but long discontinued. Carries 4 bikes.
Definitely would never buy anything that doesn't swing out to the side.

@AlbyVaz I’m not sure if I’ve seen those before. It does sound cool. If you do get it provide pictures.
