Ford will need to rethink the start stop feature and free up a chip at minimum.
Article of doom
Are supply issues w/ larger displays why Ford added that 'cubby' next to the touch screen in the Maverick?

Also curious how prices will adjust in the truck segment once all the F-150s sitting around are loaded with chips and sent to market over the coming 12-15 months.

This however paints a realistic picture. TSMC and Samsung make 99% of chips. PS5 can't be made fast enough. The newest cell phones and gadgets are ramping up for Christmas season...the two main companies are focused on newer faster chip supply while ALL (not just Ford) rely on the cheaper and older style chips as cutting edge new tech isn't necessary. All in all they expect this problem to get much worse. It could even cause an appliance shortage.

I used to work in inkjet printhead R&D program for Kodak years back. What most people don't realize is that there are microchip MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems ) devices that make up an inkjet printhead or integrated inkjet printhead/ink tanks. It takes multiple WEEKS of lead time to manufacture these things in a wafer fab. One slip up in the multi-step process process could mean that the wafer(s)/devices are all junk and you have to start over again. Been there done that waiting on prototypes or production wafers to be built years back. Now with automotive and microelectronics, throw in COVID related labor issues, supply chain materials, shipping, lead times and fab disaster delays into the mix... it compounds everything that we use today that incorporates a chip. A perfect storm for many things. UGH!

Yeah get rid of start stop useless feature. Some articles on web say Q2 we hit rock bottom and should get better in Q3. Others say gloom doom late '22 or longer. My guess is we are not going to see any real world improvements in vehicle delivery and dealer inventory for at least several months best case scenario...

Really depends on timing. The F150 is a beast for good reason. Loyal buyers will buy. If they resolve the issue and what I'd bet the plan is...supply chips once available to prebuilt trucks, flood a dry market and reap the benefits. Not by plan but by need/situation. Ford may have a release strategy trying to be prepared when the chips are available. Or...they bottom out and have to sell at a loss to get them off the lots. Dodge did this with $99 challenger leases at one point. It's anyone's bet right now. Crypto crap is part of the mix as well.

UPDATE 10 - Notice Regarding the Semiconductor Manufacturing Factory (Naka Factory) Fire: Production Capacity Recovery Status

June 25, 2021

TOKYO, Japan, 2021 ― Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced an update regarding production capacity recovery following the occurrence of a fire on March 19, 2021 at part of the processes in the N3 Building (300mm line) of Naka Factory.

The start-up of all necessary manufacturing equipment to recover pre-fire production capacity of the N3 Building, which resumed operation on April 17, has been completed. As a result, the production level of the N3 Building has returned to 100% of the pre-fire level as of the evening of June 24. In addition, alternative production is contributing to Renesas’ manufacturing as planned.

The shipment level of the products manufactured in the N3 Building is expected to return to pre-fire level around the third week of July. However, this shipment level refers to that of the N3 Building as a whole. Therefore, the recovery timing of the shipment level may vary from product to product.

Renesas will continue to strive for the safety of the community and, with the support of the fire department and the police as well as the relevant authorities, we will work to prevent a reoccurrence.
