Ford could be reporting drivers to the police in the future?

If they do something like this, I will just disconnect the TCU or pull the fuse for it. Very simple fix. You can just plug it back it back in every week or so in case there is an OTA update they are trying to send you.

Or you can just buy another brand, which I am sure many people will do. When it comes to these things, I don't stress them until they affect me. Until then, it's all conjecture.
Exactly! I refuse to support companies who don't respect my privacy. I'm the LAST guy they will catch doing 85MPH in a 55MPH. I just don't drive like that. However, that doesn't mean I think it's OK that they become the informant to the police. It's not their job or their place.

>> Being caught breaking the law out in public on a public road is not an infringement on freedom.

I'm certain that nobody on this thread would disagree with you on this.
So long as I'm "caught" by a law enforcement officer and not the telematics in my vehicle!

I don't believe Ford has any incentive to intentionally antagonize their customers or treat their customers like potential criminals.
But the government has the desire to antagonize and if they make it difficult on companies to do business and make a profit then all of the sudden companies then now have the incentive to. This is why “true” free market capitalism works, but what we have now is a hybrid with too much burdensome regulation and nose butting. We get farther and farther away from it everyday.

Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerburg and Elon Musk don't seem to have problems making money. I'd hate to see what the big tech companies would do without regulation. I fear it would make the robber Barrons of the late 19th century look downright philanthropic. We have more wealth concentrated in fewer households than we ever have before.

Ford is not a big tech company. Ford is a big automobile manufacturer.

I have seen the posted and actual speed with the change of color. I haven’t seen a “data sent” message. Of course, I am driving and can’t focus on that, but I don’t doubt for a minute that it’s there.

Maybe Ford is protecting us. If they have the patent then no one else can use it?
I'd be more inclined to say they are applying for the patent so other manufacturers have to pay them to use it.

Could be, but that could be even more evil (ie: the RCA superheterodyne patent).

No idea if this is true, but I hope not.
The technology is there.

That all looks like conspiracy theory nonsense that is typical on platforms like Facebook.

I don't believe it. Ford has no incentive to make enemies of its customers.

From the actual patent application Ford says the intended application is law-enforcement vehicles, such as the Ford Police Interceptor—not ordinary customer vehicles. Ford specifically stated that it does not contemplate sharing ordinary customers’ driving data with law enforcement through this system.

I hate it when someone gets all reasonable and actually reads something!
