TIRE TIME: seeking feedback from those who are running 245/65/17 in one of these brands:

Falken Wildpeak AT4s
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss
Nitto Ridge Grapplers

Any issues?
Would you buy again?
Do you wish you would’ve stayed with 235’s?

I run the Baja Boss tires. I really like them a lot and have no true complaints. I have had no real issues and I will buy again mainly for the look of the tire. I think it looks better than all the competition and it would have to absolutely suck for me to not purchase the tire again as I do like aesthetics to an extent. I am also glad i went with the wider tire. I think it looks pitiful on the stock tire size.

Pros:
Little Road Noise
Aggressive Look
Warranty Mileage
3 Peak Rating for Snow

Cons:
Wet Performance (Under steer is worse than stock in the rain)

I just replaced my end-of-life OEM Falken AT3 235/65s with AT4 245/65s. I almost wish I hadn't. Unsure if it's the change in size, but probably more the chunkier AT4s... It feels noticably worse to drive. Less acceleration, floatier, more torque steer, less mpg. Considering the lighter AT3s were already killer off road, I think the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

Ohhhhh sigh and this is my concern and why Ive held off so long. I have AT3s and love them but fell in love with the AT4s until all research I was doing pointed to the heavier design being something the lil BS may have a problem with in reality.

My latest is IF I do go with the Falken AT4s it will be my FE OEM 235 size and not the 245 (which I really wanted). As I type this I hear the BFG KO3 is here… 🤔

Thanks for your response; helps me greatly, and perhaps other who follow.

I called Falken customer service this morning. The OE Falkens are available but will phase out

The MT BB are the sweetest looking tire out there; strong and made in US which I love. I do have concerns about weight and balancing but have yet to rule it out.

I had visions of a 245 but perhaps will go with a bulky sidewall 235 as I do 95% road travel. Thanks for the pro/con list - helps alot 👍🏻

How many miles/months did the OE Falkens last you?
About 35k miles over the span of 2.5 years.

I suspect actual Falken AT3s would last the rated 50k rather than the Ford OEM ones.

Yeah my concern is how old are those AT3s : worry theyve been sitting a while and just burning thru inventory until gone. Would have to check the date before install if I go that route. Good to know though.

Since the BFG KO3s are no where to be found for our sizes, I’m likely pulling back from 245 mainly due to weight concerns and instead will run a 235. MT or Falken

If discount tire has a super low price on set of 4 Falken OE tires for Memorial Day sale I’ll get them
Would you still do the AT3s if they allowed an AT4 swap to a 235?

My thought…Since the BFG KO3s are no where to be found for our sizes, I’m likely pulling back from 245 mainly due to weight concerns and instead will run a 235. MT or Falken. I want an agressive looking tread and the AT4 does have some unique improvements over the AT3.

The new AT4s are great but I’ll go with the OE AT3 235 65R17 for the weight savings if the price is right for the Memorial Day sale.

I’ll check the date code stamped on the tires before installation.

I ran Toyo OC AT3 in 245 for 50k miles. My wife’s BS has the Falken 235s and every time I rode in it or drove it I could feel how much quieter and faster it was. That combined with the fact everyone here has been very happy with the Falkens performance off-road I went with them a couple weeks ago before they aren’t around anymore. I’m very happy moving backwards from the Toyo 245s to the Falken AT3 235s.
