Engine Noise Normal?

I've had the 4-cyl Badlands for about 10 months now and love it. But I notice that the engine noise, rather than being a smooth sound like most new cars, has a kind of fast clicking sound that varies with the RPMs. Much more noticeable with the hood open. My previous Ford V6 had a smooth whooshing sound even when 12 years old, and all of our second leased cars (various makes) sound much smoother. Is this normal for this engine? Everything works fine and I have had no problems.

It’s normal. You are probably hearing the direct fuel injection and whatnot.

They aren’t the most quiet engines from the outside or with the hood open.

It should be quiet inside the cabin.

The V6 in a 2002 Taurus we owned was much quieter and smoother sounding. Not nearly as fun or powerful, though!

Yes on not quiet motors. My old stang was a 2015 4cyl and it made a racket. And not the cool racket of the 8s.

And in the cabin it is quietish. I wouldn’t saythat I don’t hear it at all. Andmixes weird with the fake motor sound.

It’s the direct injection. It’s very noisy. Most people ask me if it’s a diesel when it’s idling.

Hello. I recently had a rattling/clicking sound on my 2021 Outer Banks that would increase with RPMs. It turned out to be a bad water pump that needed to be replaced.

My BB with the 1.5 sounds like a sewing machine when she's cold, soothes out after she gets to operating temp. Nature of the beast
