Hello All: I live on a barely maintained stone/dirt road that I have to drive on a mile to get to the first "improved" road. As you can imagine, my engine compartment resembles a dust bowl. Can you guys share engine cleaning ideas with me? I have read of pressure washer nightmares and the fact that this and that component need to be covered and can't get wet. What works in the real world and won't "f"up my engine?! Thanks!! 2021 BSBB 30,000 miles.

Wouldn’t pressure wash, just get a good degreaser, or iron remover spray would work also and a soft bristle brush. Spray it down let it sit for a minute or two as you agitate with the brush. Rinse off with hose with a shower nozzle, then take it for a drive, hit it with a blower or shop air.

Home depot has purple power and grease lightning in gallon jugs for a good price. Just grab a spray bottle. I kind of feel like the grease lightning is stronger.

I don’t have a bs yet but degreased my engine. Cover the battery, alternator, maybe the wells where the spark plug sit (it that can hold water I’m not sure) using plastic grocery bags. Spray degreaser, let it sit 10 min. Use low flow garden house. Do not pressure wash it.

So this is the engine bay after cleaning with P21S from a pressure spray bottle. I sprayed it on, waited a few minutes and cleaned it off with rags. Then I wiped it all down with Griots Engine Detailer. It's really a superficial cleaning but looks far better than the dust bowl it was. I never used water or a pressure washer. Bronco On!!!
