Sure love to have a spec-ed out Ford Raptor, or a v8 powered Jeep Wrangler, etc etc etc... but I take my little putt putt BS BL's and blast my way to the next adventure!

Ford should pay you big $$$ to use these photos in their advertisements. Seriously some of the best I’ve seen.
Also the message of this post is great as well. Envy doesn’t get you the things you want. It just makes you not appreciate what you have.

Thank you for the compliments... yup... envy...ego....greed and plain hate take too much time and energy at of one's day and keep you from enjoying what life ( and others...) have to offer.

I'm 60 and after 27 years as a police officer and unfortunately often seeing the worst in people ... took many years of personal growth on my part to reach any semblance of wisdom I have these days.

but better late than never... : )

Being more or less fully retired (haven't completely made my mind up on that, it's a long story), I'm in a position where I can pretty much buy what I want within reason without financing. As I figure my time on this particular plane of existence is somewhat limited, I didn't see any reason not to get what the hell I wanted, the way I wanted it.

I want to spend much of that time exploring my state and surrounding areas in ways I haven't until now. I also have to balance the realities of day-to-day getting around as a one-car family, which seems to involve way more doctor visits than I expected even a few years ago. Costco runs, trips to the lumberyard with the help of a small trailer, maybe some light camping (I'm kind of attracted to Hiker trailers).

I'm on my second Soul right now (the Kia kind, not the celestial one. I'm not a cat.), and both the 2013 and 2020 were absolutely terrific little rides. They served us well for eleven years all told. But I'm bored, and want something that will scratch that itch, as well as remain reasonably practical.

Is there a better vehicle than the BS? Depends on your definition and what you're trying to accomplish. Is my trim better (or worse) than yours? Same answer. Are you happy with it is the only question that matters.

Great post! It amazing how much time some spend berating ones particular choice in vehicles. Kidding is one thing but hate is another. Just enjoy what you have. As some of us that are older probably remember just being happy to have a vehicle. I’ve owned many. Some I liked, some I hated, but they were all better than having to walk every where!

Here in Maryland, back in the '70s, the unmarked cars were the same model as the marked cruisers, and as an added helpful hint, they had their own license plates that were very different than the standard MD plates. IIRC, they were yellow or orange. Very eye-catching.

More recently, anything can be a 'wrapper' -- minivans, pickups with workboxes in the bed, pickups with caps, etc.

I did the same amount of time as you (27 years as an ATC technician for Metrorail) -- 25+ commuting 75-100 miles a day on evening shift. Traffic was generally light, but there was a lot of 'protection' during the day. I retired in 2010 and didn't look back.

You do look pleased . . . My favorite reply to the ones who “bitched” about the ticket was, “Happy motoring”. That was in the days before body cams, mics , etc ?

Thanks for the high praise...this particular shot was not intended... just a case of right place right moment... Cloudcroft, NM.

What you don't see/hear is that I had just passed a line of 12 side-by-sides of peeps drinking a bit too much and firing off a round or two In their glee as they passed what I was intending to camp at for a peaceful night on that particular day... needless to say I packed up and relocated into deeper BLM land...

That haze is not from a filter...but from their wake as they passed by...lol

My BS came with a sunroof, which I never really found a use for until I napped in my vehicle as stared at the tall pines in the mist... guess there is something useful for that sunroof after all..hahaha

I dont think for the $$ you can get a better more fun-per-mile than a Bronco Sport!
