Has anyone added cargo drawers or a fridge slider system to their Bronco Sport yet? One of the first modifications to my BS/BL was adding a Pioneer Roof Rack so I could relocate the spare to the roof, freeing up that space for more storage and recovery gear. To ease access to the potential storage under the rear cargo area, I wanted a design that would slide out to avoid having to unload everything. Hereā€™s what Iā€™ve designed, along with some progress pictures of the build. There are more pictures and details on my AzWildBronco Instagram page. What are you thinking about building?

Nice work! You appear to be adding a good amount of weight though? I have many years in the Exhibit Manufacturing Industry. If youā€™d like some pointers on very lightweight yet durable technology, let me know. Nice Design!

Sure, I would appreciate the input! The prototype Is being built with .710 Baltic plywood for strength, although I was planning on incorporating some weight reduction cutouts. Here is a closer picture of the base supports with weight reduction applied.

Basically what you want to do is build all of your panels like a hollow core door. Panel skeletons are just a frame with strategic cross members for attachment points. I would use Poplar for weight reduction, while retaining strength and stability. The Engineering is more complex, but final product is generally a third of the weight and can be many times more stable and durable. Design frames with voids for wiring raceways, speciality hardware embedding etc.

Fabricate frames at 1/2ā€, 3/4ā€, 1ā€, etc. Engineer all interior requirements. Jig for squareness. Simple mitre/butt joints generally. Glue and staple stitch. Embed any specialties. Fill voids with Cardboard Honeycomb. Laminate visible/exposed edges. Skin front and back with laminate of choice. Use vertical/horizontal grade to your advantage.

Itā€™s really all in the Skeletal Frame Engineering, Creativity and Craftsmanship.

I hope this is somewhat understandable and if you have questions just ask. :)

This is a 40ā€™x40ā€™x16ā€™ tall Modular Exhibit with many different Configurations. It packs smaller and weighs less than Our overall decked-out Broncos and you could dance and have dinner on Top of it! :)

Thatā€™s it in 3 Cases, 1 Pallet.

Thatā€™s great information, thanks! I have plans to include a sliding ā€œsleepingā€ platform here the idea of doing light weight panels would be perfect. Iā€™ll see what I can find regarding construction techniques for a laminate buildup like you described. Do you have any specific materials you have used for the honeycomb cores, you mentioned cardboard I believe. Thanks again.

Cool setup. I also plan on a fridge and portable solar battery. Would those items need to have more space to "breathe", or expel the heat they generate?

Shouldnā€™t be a concern for me since the space isnā€™t totally enclosed and the actual venting on the items is not blocked. Iā€™m designing around a Bluetti EB70 power source as a house battery, assessable from the passenger rear seat side. The cooler is a BougeRV 53qt unit, which received good reviews overall and is very affordable. Both will run for hours off either 12v or 110v from the BS onboard power or the EB70. I also have a single 200w Bluetti solar panel setup for the EB70 for additional charging in camp.

Looks great, been thinking about something like this, but havenā€™t had any time to build it.

Thanks! This is final mock-up before final assembly. Also some shots of the cargo assembly sliding out for access to spare tire compartment.
