Can someone please help me understand the Ford Premium Maintenance Plan. I purchased my 2022 Badlands in July 2022, and also bought the Premium Maintenance Plan and Extended Warranty.

The vehicle now has 30K and it at the dealer for the service. After reading multiple articles regarding transmission issues, I asked them to drain and fill the transmission fluid, PTU and RDU.

The dealer just called and stated that those are not covered with either the Maintenance or Warranty, and quoted me over $700 for doing all 3.

Does this sound right? I need help understanding.

Thank You In Advance.

Don’t quote me (I’ll deny it all), but I don’t think those items are covered @ 30,000 miles as the service schedule doesn’t recommend them at that interval. They may be covered undier the maintenance plan IF the plan runs long enough to reach the recommended service mileage.
The $700 is probably right for dealer service; the price is higher here in CA — I know . . . I just had it done.

@dparleng … you may want to Read your owners manual in the maintenance section for the SPECIAL OPERATING CONDITIONS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE specifically the Extensive Idling or Low-speed Driving for Long Distances section then check your Ford Premium Maintenance Plan to see if there is coverage when you state you use your vehicle for Extensive Idling or Low-speed Driving for Long Distances. If the Premium Maintenance Plan covers that and you can state that to the dealership you might have a chance at the 30k fluid change under the Premium Maintenance Plan. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks Dude. I will look into that. Just to let you know. The dealer called me back and said that they would cover the transmission drain and fill with my maintenance plan. The RDU and PTU fluids are not covered.

@Dude. Thank You for the help and suggestions on this issue. The dealer did complete the transmission drain and fill using Premium Care.

On another note. I also asked the dealer to check for a ticking sound in the drivers side door at highway speeds. They came back and confirmed they heard the sound and told me it was a combination of the hood protector that I bought from Ford Parts that the dealer installed, as well as loose roof rails and body panels.

Something does not sound right with that diagnosis.

Any suggestions on this?

You could remove the hood protector and tighten up the roof rails to see if the ticking goes away. Or take it to a trusted mechanic, drive the vehicle with the mechanic - when the ticking occurs you’ll get a 2nd opinion. These sorts of noises can be difficult to diagnose the root cause.

If you are still inside your 36k warranty and the dealership diagnosed your vehicle to have loose roof rails and body panels, I would think that is something that should be corrected under warranty.

Replacing critical fluids myself since day one has been easy and cheaper - engine oil every 5k mi, transmission oil every 30k, PTU/RDU every 35k. All of those maintenance actions done together at our dealership is generally over $1k. Doing it yourself cost is around $180-200. The PTU oil (1 qt) is the only expensive item. I use only Motorcraft OEM fluids and filters.
