Until only a couple of years ago, I had never heard of this so please excuse my ignorance. From what I understand, adding a ceramic coating will protect the paint from minor scratches and paint fade. It's also supposed to make the vehicle much easier to clean and keep clean.

I'd love to hear some input from people more knowledable about this. Is it worth the cost? How much would it cost for a BS? Is it all it's built up to be? Will it improve trade-in value down the road?

I have used Meguiars ceramic, and pro ceramic with what I consider to be excellent results. It goes on after a wash, you can cover the entire vehicle before buffing off excess. I apply and remove with microfiber towels by hand. It's the deepest gloss I've ever achieved. All winter in Michigan, I was able to go to the DIY spray wash and hose off salt and grime. Car looked brand new after a soap and rinse pressure spray. I swear by Meguiars products and I'd say yeah it protects the paint from minor things.
A commercial coating is possibly better, but for the money a $20 bottle and some sweat equity is hard to beat

I think ceramic coatings are a good deal for a deep shine. I just did my BS and 2 other cars and still have about half a bottle left. Goes on easy and just wipe it off with microfiber towels. I used NexGen and was very pleased.

Yes it’s kinda easy to clean, the Paint is slippery as heck, is it worth it ? I’ll let you know in 5 years if my paint is still slippery. It is kinda expensive but break it down yearly according to your warranty. I really didn’t get technical with the guy that did mine I just know it’s better than just waxing it. I would have done it myself but I have Back issues that prevent me from doing just about anything. I would shop around for prices, unless you already have a guy. I was charged $ 800.00 but was told regular price was $ 1200.00 but because I knew so an so it was $800. My guy James did the entire outside of the vehicle all the paint, all the windows, all the gray parts, even did the rims I was told. I’m very happy so far.
Sum before and after pics. (Whom ever the guy at the Ford Dealership was did the scratches to the panels when they detailed a brand new car obviously 🙄 doesn’t know what he’s doing.)

Nexgen ceramic spray coating.
To be fair, not a coating in the traditional sense. More of a ceramic detail spray. The longevity is nothing like a coating but it is quick and easy to apply.

No ceramic coating will protect against any scratches. If they claim it will they are full of it. They are great for shine, uv protection, cleaning/maintenance and they last a long time. You just have to make sure to do any paint correction prior to applying.
