I'd say there isn't enough credit given to that recovery team. I spent five years in NASCAR doing some recovery and safety along those lines. The training and margin for error in correcting a vehicle on grass/asphalt is a challenge in itself. The compromises they faced down a 20 foot steep embankment with limited room...hats off to this group. Also great credit to the Bronco sport for proving the safety rating was earned and established. THIS is a remarkable note to both parts of the story. WOW...just wow. Amazing they are all OK.

I remember back in the day we had this little dashboard miniature thingymabob doohicky. Looked like a miniature planet globe.
You set it for roll over limits for your vehicle.
In later years they showed up as graphical LED's in the dash..
You exceed the limit and over you go..
Such a waste to see a Baby Bronco pushed to the point of destruction.
But WTH it's only money and you can't take it with you..

The way the story reads...the globe was the least of the issues...darkness and bad fate did most of the heavy lifting.. sounded like a pure miscalculation and bad accident.

Driver error. Strong roof structure and air bags no one got hurt. Vehicle most likely totaled.

There's some video of the recovery (and it starting up on the first try) here:

Really impressive job on the recovery! Looks like the trail just caved out under them in the first place... That's a _really_ rough place to get it out of!!

Now I can see why it rolled or should I say fell off a cliff . I would be Leary about that trail in daylight & I have a lot of 4x4 experience . I wonder what the owner told the insurance company .

Great team effort in the recovery. That happened not too far from us. Out there at night it could have been a lot worse. Glad nobody was hurt.

Some Insurance companies will cover off-road damage (progressive will - I checked before buying my policy with them )
