The scrapping sound early in the video, if you do even light off roading this car will scrape, just how it goes.

One of those Jack of all trades master on none compromises.

Also this guy is a bit of an idiot. He dug out the second to last climb so he made it the first time because it wasn’t and the other attempts he uses too much speed, digs in further and probably high centers the car.

The last climb, no surprises there the car simply doesn’t have the approach angle or clearance for that and if you bought a sport and that’s what you intend to do you’ve fucked up.

Fun watch! The Sport held its own, even if he was "babying it" to avoid damage to Ford's test model. Two entirely different vehicles with different purposes, but a video comparing road manners, creature comforts, and MPG wouldn't be as exciting.

I’m not sure why everyone tries to compare the two. Other than the manufacturer and the brand name, it’s apples and oranges.

One thing that would make that video better would be to throw in a Subaru to show the three levels of off-road capabilities. The BS sure isn't a full size Bronco, but it's significantly more capable than other off-road focused small SUVs. I think the only potential competition for it comes from the Trailhawk trimmed Jeeps SUVs, and that is mostly because of having a low gear. That advantage is offset some by having a less powerful engine.

I like his reviews, they're not perfect but he is generally fair. He says many times that he really likes the Sport.

He made note that the Wildtrak had aftermarket tires.

Dry dirt, like dry sand gets looser as you churn it. I wasn't there but I also think it probably dried out during the day. A little moisture helps hold it together.

It would have been nice to see if the Wildtrak had a tougher time in the afternoon as well.

Agreed. The Trailhawk Cherokee is likely the most capable off road CUV out there aside from the Sport. That being said the Wilderness Subies are also great off road.

took the BS thru Berdoo? with a lift? I thought that trail would requires some extra clearance based on the videos I've seen.

I thought that was a good video. He intended to identify where the capability line is between the 2-door Wildtrak and the BS Heritage Limited/Badlands. just the tires alone probably made the difference.

Clarify:

We were coming down from Joshua Tree via the Geology Tour Road in a Gladiator and Wrangler. The Subies and a couple RAV4's were coming up.

Owners said for most it was their first time up the canyon and aside from scraping their skid plates the little AWD cars did fine. Like just about any trail, pick the right line, watch for rocks and send it. I think a BS aired down a little would have no issue except for scrapes.

The performance of a vehicle off-road has a lot to do with the skill of the person driving it.

and he used crawl control incorrectly by constantly turning the tires. That surprised me because he owned a 4R for about a year. For those that don't know, Toyota CC can pull loose dirt and sand under the tire and raises the tire out of the hole. Would it have worked if he had not kept steering back and forth? Don't know, but he didn't give a chance.
