A little, little Bronco story. I came across the Susie Islands Overlook quite by accident. It’s a few kilometres past the Pigeon River border as one drives into Grand Portage. It's right off the highway. If you don't keep an eye out you'll drive by completely unaware it exists. The sun was super-bright making for a difficult exposure. I didn't have proper gear to capture this the way I typically would but a nice view none-the-less.

The roadway leading up to the overlook is not maintained during the winter. It was covered with thick ice. I wasn’t sure if the Bronco Sport would even make it over the rather large ice bump directly off the highway to gain access to the drive. Worst case scenario I'd slide backwards onto the highway and oncoming traffic. But the little Bronco handled it with aplomb — just a reminder of why I enjoy this little vehicle.

Great photos! Nice to hear the little Bronco handled the icy conditions well.

These vehicles are definitely in their prime for snow and ice except for the build up on the felt inner fender liners. As far as their road manners, I’d rank my Badlands up with the best. We haven’t had any 12+ snows in the past three years but the 2006 Escape went thru an eighteen and the Badlands is definitely better. The ground clearances are within 1/2in of each other.

Pretty cool pictures! In Iowa, there are so many people who drives these and have great experience in the different weather experiences!
