2026 Badlands spontaneous windshield crack

2026 Bronco Sport Badlands. Purchased new March 2026.

The car had not been driven since Saturday. There had been no weather (hail, etc.). Temperatures were 70s overnight to low 90s during the day. Came out yesterday morning (Monday) and found an 18 inch crack on the driver's side starting from the bottom and up vertical about 18 inches. Appears to be a spontaneous windshield crack.

Anyone else?

We're trying to make a warranty claim, not a damage claim. There's precedent for new car windshield stress fractures.

UPDATE: Dealer did pin test, took photos and submitted to Ford for warranty claim. Ford responded within hours and approved the windshield replacement under factory warranty. 10 to 14 days to get the replacement windshield to the dealer for replacement.

Spontaneous cracks can start without being visible at first from small impacts, temperature changes from being in direct sun then turning on the A/C, to internal glass flaws. Proving what caused it usually isn't easy.
Here is what the Ford warranty says about windshield stress cracks:
Not covered - windshield stress cracks. However, limited coverage on
windshield stress cracks will be provided for the first 12 months
or 12,000 miles (whichever occurs first), even though caused
by use and/or exposure to the elements.

You can take it to the dealer, they can ask Ford and see what happens.

I was able to get 2 windshields replaced on my new 1996(?) Chevy Malibu. The crack occurred 3/4 of the way up the drivers side A pillar and went 6 inches to the center. A week later it happened again and I went nuts and got that one free also, they added more caulk the second time.

That's not uncommon on F150 drivers side windows. The cracks just randomly show up.

This is why I have zero deductible windshield coverage on my Bronco Sport. With having to have the camera re-calibrated when you replace the windshield it's even more cost effective to have the coverage now. I got a stone chip in first 300mi on the our 2025 BSBS.

We bought zero deductible windshield coverage when we bought the '26 Badlands this last March. I believe it only covers one windshield replacement, which is why we're trying to make this a warranty claim instead. We think evidence shows this was a defect, not damage.

In AZ, windshield coverage is pretty much automatic with your auto policy. USAA gives me four repairs and one (or two, can't remember) full replacements per year. I think it's about $10 extra on my policy.

True, but not necessarily to the same standards. The specific glass compositions are varied to meet a spec and a price point. If you see a substantial price difference between the two, it's a dead giveaway. Very much a "you get what you pay for" proposition.

Like I said earlier, it's all DOT-approved, but that's a surprisingly low bar having to do only with safety, not durability, longevity, or overall quality.

There's also often a shocking difference in cost depending on if you or insurance pays, regardless of the glass source. Last time I went through that choice it was $285 if I paid, $970 if insurance covered it, for the same glass.

That Safelite $895 quote for a replacement '26 Sport Badlands windshield (installed and calibrated) was if we paid out of pocket, not insurance.

I got the quote so I would know.
