2025 BS big bend trail descent

I have been doing a lot of research about trail descent in a 2025 Big Bend sport. When going down a steep decline on trail and wanting to maintain a speed of about 5 miles an hour putting it in off-road mode and push pushing the L button. I still have to use the brakes because the engine won’t hold it back. is that correct? I’m talking about a decline. That is the equivalent of that in a parking garage.

I don't know about the 2025, but my 2021 Badlands has a trail control button adjacent to the GOAT mode knob/dial. To activate trail control you press the button, the dash will display a message and you can set the speed in 1mph increments. If the decent is either too steep or slippery don't completely rely on trail control. Trail control can also be used to asend grades as well.
When trail control is active during decent you may here buzzing sounds that is the ABS pump activating the brakes and is normal.

I am in a Big Bend which doesn’t have trail control. Curious how other Big Bend owners do this. I feel like I am missing something simple.

TC worked flawlessly for me on my recent trip across the Apache Trail, where grades reach 10-12%. Ascents and descents were equally well-managed. Incremental speed control was spot on. I had it manage speeds ranging from 3-25mph, most often in the 5-10mph band.

My only complaint (more of an observation of an expected side effect), was that because of the heavy use of engine braking, fuel economy goes down the toilet.

Edit: I misread your OP, thinking you meant the actual Trail Control feature.

since our Big Bend trim lines do not have trail control, i would think you are correct...

Left foot braking is what you seek, one pedal drive takes that off your plate, but if you don’t have it, left foot it is.

Heavy vehicle and small engine makes engine braking less effective. Even a loaded transport will have a hard time on a grade with engine retarder on.

in a big bend the "trail decent" is the pedal to the left of the accelerator.

I think you are thinking of Hill Descent Control, it is a little different that Trail Control. But it is not available on the Bronco Sport outside of Badlands.

Hill Descent Control applies brakes to keep you at the set speed while going downhill. Trail Control will control braking and accelerating to keep you at a set speed on not only downhill but also uphills.
