Not the only reason not to go with a sunroof - a number of owners reported theirs leaked
I'm so glad I never liked moon roofs or sun roofs. I had one (sort of...it rolled back accordion style, leather...like a limo, so it was a hole you could stand up in) on my first car in the late 60's and it was great until someone decided to slash it open with a knife. I decided at that point, if I wanted to look at the moon or feel the sun, I would have a convertible or hang my head out the window! 😆

Has anyone recently heard or had their sunroof explode?

I'm sorry that happened to you.

Hopefully it's covered under the warranty.

Were you in the BS when it exploded?

I was driving it about 35mph when it exploded. Sounded like a bomb going off. I drove it straight to the dealership and that is where it is at now. They are not sure if Ford will cover under warranty, which I think is BS!

No clue. Nothing fell on it. The dealership couldn't figure it out either.

You might want to look for other posts/threads (here and elsewhere) about the sunroof exploding and see how many were covered by the mfr's warranty.

It is clearly not your fault, and it's not as if something fell on it. It's a factory defect. FWIW, your sunroof looks like other photos I've seen.

I read about exploding sunroofs -- on several makes of vehicles -- being an issue a while back. It's not common, but it's obviously not unheard of. I believe the defect was discovered and corrected in most cases.

From Google:

"There have been reports and lawsuits related to exploding sunroofs in Ford vehicles, and some Robison Lemon Law Group, LLC has seen a surge in service reports, warranty claims, and lawsuits related to exploding sunroofs in Ford vehicles."

Notify your insurance company if you haven't already -- just in case Ford won't pay. Who knows, the ins co may go after Ford.

Dealer: "They all do that!"

The dealership must know it has been a problem.

That’s about the worst case to get a satisfactory resolution or so it would seem if Ford won’t budge to make this “right”
