The Badlands/FE (i.e. w/2.0L engine) has a liquid-cooled, PTU, doesn't it? So the step ""just remove the cooler first to gain access (to the PTU drain/fill holes)" must add some complexity? I'm also not so sure it doesn't have the older PTU without the shift fork and gears he describes?

All sports have a PTU which sends power to the rear wheels.

Yes it does, do you have questions?
I have dealt with Ford's PTU's in Edge's and Explorers that I've owned. In those models, I would do a drain/fill every 30k as they had little fluid in them and sat right next to the cat converter and just baked to death. I assume it's a similar situation on this platform?

The PTU in your Badlands is liquid cooled.

When I had bash plate off mine to change oil it looks like Badlands PTU fluid is integrated with transmission fluid. It looked like trans and PTU fluid circulated through both PTU and trans. Looked like PTU used trans fluid and trans cooler to get its cooling feature. Note mine has towing package so that might make a difference in fluid line routing etc.

The 3 cylinders prob have their own independent fluid like you've seen on other Ford models.

Good to hear it's a cooled unit on this platform. I think I will still change the fluid every 30k. I plan to drive mine to 180-200k, so will be doing all I can to preserve it. I do hope they sorted the 2.0 coolant intrusion issues, too...?
