I have a 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands. I bought the Bronco in 2023.
Sometimes the lights that circle the headlights stay on for approximately 10-15 minutes after I’ve turned the vehicle off.
I have come out to get in and the doors won’t open and when I try to start it the battery is dead. Most of the time the battery is completely dead. I have been able to jump start a few times. One time I had to have it towed to the dealership.
The dealership has replaced the battery 3 times already. They say they can’t find any other issue other than a bad battery. Now it is dead again.
I’m wonder if it isn’t a computer related issue, bad alternator, and/or bad wiring.
I’m so close to getting rid of it and getting a totally different model SUV other than Ford. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

10-15 minutes is an awful long time for the headlights to stay on after parking. I think mine is like a minute or two, MAX. If you feel its a computer problem, you should be able to get the dealership to flash the ECU, at least the Body Control Module, which I believe is what runs the headlights. They can't keep claiming the battery. ONE faulty battery? Fine. But as soon as a new one goes in, and the same electrical problem subsequently arises soon after again, then its something else. I imagine you've given a good check to all your connections at the battery and have also checked that maybe your ground wire did not come loose?

Do you have any auxillary lighting or anything else that you plug in regularly?

All the connections have been checked at the battery including the ground wire.
I had a dash cam professionally installed a while after I bought the Bronco, but these issues with the headlights started before the install. Ford already supposed that it may have been installed incorrectly, but I doubt that since the issues with the lights and all started well before the dash cam.

Track down the prior owner(s) of the vehicle and see what electrical issues they had. I suspect that is why they traded in the vehicle. Or you can trade it in on another vehicle.

if you want to keep the vehicle you would need to find an electrical specialist. It’s straightforward to attach a current sensor, voltage monitor and a laptop with software that tracks electrical usage. After that finding the source of the problem is deterministic but typically is not easy and likely costs too much.

I thought maybe that’s why the prior owners may have traded it in.
I’d like to keep it. I really do like it. I just happened to buy an extended warranty by chance so it is still covered. So, I think I will try to get it resolved for now.

If you have a Ford dealership with an electrical specialist and access to the right equipment they can perform a long term test (at least overnight) then begin the hunt for the source of the problem.

See Post #78 for an idea of what to tell your dealership.

Yes!! Thank you! I normally don’t get them, but something told me to this time and I’m glad I listened.

As ridiculous as it seems, the installation of an aftermarket electrical item provides an excuse for a stumped service department. As long as they have that excuse to point to they will not be motivated to find the true problem. I recommend you remove the dashcam--or at least disconnect the power source--to eliminate that as the problem.

That’s a good point. Thank you.

Maybe check the "Lighting" settings? On the touchscreen, go to "Settings">"Vehicle">"Lighting">"Autolamp Delay". I have mine set to 10 seconds. Cheers!

You might check the vanity mirrors on the underside of the visors…there are lights and if the flaps aren’t completely closed there will be a slow drain…and this is not something techs usually check.
