Lately I have been hearing a deep groaning sound coming from the rear axle area. This only occurs at low speed while turning left, but mostly right. I made an appointment with my Ford dealer. After a proper diagnosis and verification of the complaint, they informed me that they changed the rear differential fluid, but the problem still exists. Somewhat slightly better, but still there. The dealer told me that they ordered a new differential to be installed. Since the vehicle has 31,000 miles, its covered thankfully under the engine and powertrain warranty. This drive component is currently under a large backlog by Ford. Seems like many other units are experiencing this problem. The dealer tech also recommended that when they install the new differential, they will install a breather kit, which apparently is a design problem that caused the failure of the differential. The breather kit I will have to pay for and the cost they quoted was $200.
