Has anyone had an issue with their 2020+ Bronco Sport experiencing sudden and catastrophic Engine failure? Took the grandkids to a movie Saturday night, Sunday morning my engine seized up. Had it towed to local Ford dealership. They told me the engine is locked up, water in the oil. $14,000 engine replacement, and sorry about your luck, "You're 2,700 miles outside of warranty." Dealership said there's nothing they can do. Ford customer service said there's nothing they can do. They also said they are not going to look into why the engine seized. (unless I want to pay an additional $1,500 for the privilege.....Any insights or suggestions?
That sounds awful familiar. I had a F150 V6, Being a mechanic, I did a couple of preliminary checks and took it to the ford dealer as it was only 6500 miles over warranty. I was a work they called said same thing (water in the oil, $7200 engine replacement). I told them BS and to doing nothing else to the truck. I had it towed to a friends shop. It turned out to be a burnt lifter. Repair and tow was $650. I had then checked and it seems this was a common diagnosis of this dealer. Take it for a second opinion.

Did you have an overheating event recently, where the engine overheated while driving? You really haven’t given us much history as to why the engine failed.

There is almost always an issue that occurs that creates a situation like this.
No history other than some hesitation and rough idling that I took it into the dealership for 6-8 weeks earlier. (No problems found)

Expectations and reality are not the same thing. If you worked in the auto industry, I should not have to elaborate on this. I also find it hard to believe that you were not offered extended warranty when you bought it since service contracts are a huge revenue stream for dealers. I am not a heartless a**hole.....I emptathize with your situation and it sucks. I would have loved to hear that Ford is covering at least a portion of it under goodwill. However, I am not surprised to hear that they are not.

Best of luck with your situation; I sincerely mean that.
I worked in transmission manufacturing. I have seen where the manufacturer would pay for the repair on something this unusual and catastrophic just to get the unit back to do a proper teardown and evaluation of the failure. The dealership did nothing more than verify the engine was locked up and drained some oil to see there was water in the oil.
I worked for Sears back in the day, installing furnaces. They would go above and beyond in customer service. And then you have Costco who without question allows returns anytime if you’re not satisfied regardless of warranty, so yes, there are people who stand behind their product and care about their customers. And to buy a $40,000 vehicle and have it turn into junk in 4 years? We’ll, I’m done with this thread.

It sucks that you were past the Warranty but IMO I'm not sure any other Automotive Manufacturer would have done anything different and replaced the engine under warranty since the warranty was up..

Went through dealer. Sorry - SOL "you're out of warranty"
Went through Ford Customer Service, same response.
Ford Service gave me no avenue to escalate. Dealership is trying.
Bottom line, if you're not the original owner, and you don't own other Ford products, they're not going to help.... (warranty)

Yup, just 2,700 over warranty mileage....
Are You the original owner? If not did You get Oil Change records from the times before You bought it?

And Sears went out of business. Anything mechanical does not have an exact breakdown time so manufacturers calculate many factors of how long to determine warranty length - likely cost and likely occurrence, public image (Rolls Royce has an unlimited mileage powertrain warranty because they are perceived as higher quality but you pay for that in higher price, Hyandai has longer warranty because Korean cars used to have poor quality image), depending on who makes the part and how many break the supplier has to chip in money, bean counters need jobs to. Any expense they incur beyond what they calculate every customer pays for it when they buy with a higher price. So every coverage beyond warranty comes out of all of our pockets.

Appreciate the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty - here is what Carchex lists as only 4 year 50,000 mile powertrain warranties:
  • 4 years/50,000 miles: Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Porsche, Volvo
The way I handle it is to get a new car every 3 to 5 years.
