2021 Big Bend pandemic edition with 47k miles has had an exhaust leak for several months. Stinks up the cabin and requires driving with the windows rolled down. Dealer originally charged $800 to replace two $20 clamps on the catalytic converter, but that didn't fix it. Now they said the turbocharger needs to be replaced, but it's on back order until at least the end of February (although covered by drivetrain warranty). Meanwhile, it's a gas chamber on wheels that I can't drive. Ford already paid me off under our lemon law for a totally unrelated issue six months after I bought it. Lemon law no longer applies after 30 months. Suggestions?

I’ve often wondered if a larger aftermarket turbocharger could be used to replace the OEM turbo….

Does the turbo need replacement because that's now where the dealer thinks the exhaust leak is coming from, or for some other reason.

Very odd that the dealer cannot figure out how to find and repair an exhaust leak.
Unless they just want you to go away.

Try another dealer.

That's what they're saying -- the leak is from the turbocharger. And then somehow the smell is getting into the vehicle. Runs and sounds fine.

have you or they (dealership) checked the exhaust pipe connections at the turbo? I don't see how the turbo itself could leak but could see the exhaust pipe connections on the turbo leaking. I don't know exactly how these are setup, have not looked at one but that would be next place I would go
