FORD ALERTS CUSTOMERS THAT CERTAIN 2020-2023 MY BRONCO SPORT AND ESCAPES MAY HAVE A CRACKED FUEL INJECTOR

DEARBORN, Mich., November 24, 2022
– Ford Motor Company will urge owners of 2020-2023 MY Bronco Sport and Escapes with 3-cylinder, 1.5L engines to visit their dealership to inspect for a potential cracked fuel injector.

When the engine is operating, a cracked fuel injector could cause fuel and/or fuel vapor to accumulate near hot surfaces, resulting in a potential under hood fire.

“Taking care of our customers who are affected by this potential issue is our utmost priority,” said Jim Azzouz, Executive Director, Global CX Products & Customer Relations. “Once the repair is available, we will ask customers to schedule service with their preferred dealer. They can then take advantage of our complimentary pickup and delivery or a loaner to make sure the repair is completed at their earliest convenience.”

Ford is taking steps to minimize the inconvenience for customers, including providing an option to arrange for free pick-up, repair and delivery, in addition to owners taking vehicles themselves to Ford dealers.

Ford will:
Update the engine control software. To detect whether the fuel injector is cracked and, if so, provide a dashboard message to customers to seek service. Additionally, if a pressure drop in the fuel rail is detected, engine power will automatically be reduced to minimize any risk, while also allowing customers to drive to a safe locations, and stop the vehicle and arrange for service.

Install a tube that drains fuel from the cylinder head and away from hot surfaces, and

Check for excessive fuel odor near the top of the engine,
another indicator of a possible issue.
Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving vehicles under this recall.

This recall affects 518,993 vehicles in the United States. Ford is projecting a low failure rate for fuel injectors experiencing external leak(s) at 15 years/150,000 miles (approximately 0.38% for 2020MY vehicles and 0.22% for 2021-2022MY vehicles.

Checked for this recall using my VIN and it says no recall for me.

Okay, I just checked again and now I am involved in this recall.

Just checked and saw my Sport is in the recall list.

"PARTS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF 1Q, 2023."

Here's hoping that good luck holds out until then!

I’m so over these recalls. I have had every one including this one. 54 vehicles have already caught on fire but we should have the parts by the end of the 1st quarter. Ridiculous!

500 bazillion 2021 and 2022’s including base models have this bla bla recall.
Umpteen thousand 2021-2022’s
A threat of fire or brake stuff and the thing is gonna blow up.
I go in for an oil change every 5k miles and not one in 23 months has ever been on mine.
SO I take it from this it’s only a few ?
Why is it news in this Forum?
Next oil change and ya got it scheduled ta git fixed !
I guess if I spot a service bulletin or a recall I’m not doing my part unless I get the word out !
I think I’ll go for a drive.

Mine isn’t showing a recall for that, but I just discovered it just recently got recalled for this:

PCM PROGRAMMING AND DRAIN TUBE INSTALLATION

You know if you don’t want to see it, you don’t have to click on it, strange concept I know!

Other people like myself like to stay informed to recalls because they give you advice on what to do in the meantime till it gets fixed. I didn’t know I had a recall on something else till I looked this one up and now I’m glad I know that I should be notified when to get it fixed.

As far as I can tell - that pertains to the same recall. The PCM programming is to detect if there is a pressure loss at the fuel injectors and the drain tube is to drain away any leaked fuel from potential ignition sources. In other words: a band-aid until the actual parts required to fix the fuel injectors is available.
