Have you heard of the Good Idea Fairy? The one who whispers quietly into your ear ... "it's ok, you should do this"? The Good Idea Fairy and I are, apparently, good friends. After luring me into driving from Florida to Moab (and back), the whispers started up again pretty quickly. You see, Lotus...
No, that's the cheapo Cabelas 10' roof box I picked up at Bass Pro a couple of days before I hit the road. And, it is cheapo, but it did the job. There were a LOT of bug parts inside the box at the end of the trip, but nothing got wet when I drove through rain on the highway.
Ha! Yours for the taking. I put it in Sand to disable traction control going up the ascent face. Otherwise, on all the other roads and obstacles over a few days out there it stayed in Normal or Sport. Sport kept the revs a little higher for easier throttle control for that (not) massive rock...
Yes, you are correct. Basically a gussied up Big Bend.
1.5L Dragon powerplant, 8(?) spd automatic, just the two GOATy modes - slippery and sand, the basic rear diff, OEM tires.
I tend to keep tires a few PSI over OEM recommendation, and do so with the Sport, especially for long highway rides...
I think a couple of other data points would help fill in the picture- average speed for each tank, altitude change (hilliness?).
Speed seemed to be the worst offender, and I think westbound = generally uphill = worse mileage. But thatās spec.
I didn't hit either of those, no. If it had been just a little warmer, just a couple of weeks earlier in the year, I would have stayed and done a lot more sightseeing. As it was, I got to scratch the surface of all the greatness that is Moab. Without scratching up the Panda Express.
I'll get...
Wish I had recorded the descent down Baby Lions Back, or the teetering on Willow Creek. But sometimes all your white knuckles need to be clamped on the wheel.
As previously noted, I have 'dynamic honesty' about what I'm likely to do when the Good Idea Fairy comes a'callin'. What follows will be a combination Trip Report and Ownership Update, with some mileage and maintenance stats just to spice (?) things up.
Purchased a new 2023 B S Heritage on...
In an earlier post I said I wasnāt taking my ā23 Heritage to Moab.
I arrived in Moab this afternoon.
I therefor amend my previous assertion: Iām not going (rock crawling or doing Hells Revenge in) Moab.
Iām planning on a couple of days of easy trails and dispersed camping.
My Tesla 3 lives in Florida, home of tropical rain. This moron drove through a pond because there are videos of other morons doing the same stupid thing because it's not an ICE, and won't ingest water, and Elon Musk said they're like floaty toys or something equally idiotic and waterproof(ish)...
I didn't think to try the tailgate! Fail! Thanks for the update. Not terribly surprising the rear liftgate would have more flex than the doors when you consider the geometry.
More JD Power info on the BS. Another strong positive is the safety rating (separate from the link info).

Admit Nothing.
I made a serendipitous CMS self-storage discovery. When folded, it slides into a slot parallel to the rear seatbacks and sits neatly out of the way. I've seen complaints in other posts about the CMS panel getting in the way (and I've experienced it). Now it has a home in the BS...
I put the BS on opposing ramps to see how it flexed.
There was no noticeable impingement of the doors, no visible body twist when looking at the pin stripes (coincidentally convenient level gauge).
Pic 1 - flat on the ground, 2 - on ramps, pax side, 3 - on ramps, 4 - on ramps, note rear wheel...
