Yeah. That aligns pretty closely with what I was suggesting above and I agree with most of what ChatGPT concluded. I said it may be small, but probably not zero. These are unibody SUVs and in reading the posts on this forum, many owners are looking for fuel economy. I wouldn't expect too...
I don't believe that's correct. It may be small, but I don't believe there is no loss. Just the fact that there is an added substrate will add some amount of backpressure. As it becomes loaded with soot, the backpressure increases. That's how/why the pressure sensors are used to determine if...
LOL at the "fenty freaks cutting it off!"
I don't think it's THAT big of a deal. I do agree that I would certainly prefer a BS without a GPF, but it's really just a catalyst with no precious metal or wash coat designed to collect soot/particulate matter. It certainly adds some backpressure...
Ha!!! Yes. You are correct. I did mine first and since mine doesn't have a GPF, I didn't know if it would be there or not. After doing the research on mine by finding the certification information on the EPA website, I kept using that same method and didn't even notice it said "GPF" right on...
Please let me know what you find if you decide to take it in. Would love to confirm that method works. Good luck... let us know what your options are and what you decide.
I think it may be difficult to find an exhaust shop to remove it because it's technically a federal offense to do so (anti-tampering laws), unless you find or know of a shop that just doesn't care or feels comfortable that you will keep their name out of it if anything ever comes of it. The...
Thanks for posting, @Traveler!
Here's the info for yours. This seems to be working. As you can see below (circled in red) this shows only a three-way catalyst and no GPF.
If people want to check their vehicle without crawling under it and want instructions, let me know.
Thanks for posting!
Seems to work. According to the data, your second catalyst's 2nd brick is a GPF (1st brick is a three-way catalyst (TWC)).
Here's the results:
Exactly.
I'd like to confirm the theory. If someone is willing to post a picture of their label, I'll give it a try. Ideally, it would be nice to get one with and one without a GPF.
After a little more detective work, I'm pretty sure I can determine if a vehicle has a GPF or not based on a picture of the VECI label.
This is from one of the 25MY Bronco Sport test groups.
I think you can look at the cert label on the underside of the hood and tell. If someone with a GPF posts a pic of theirs, I can confirm.
Here's an example.
I'm pretty sure when you push a paddle to put it in manual mode, it will show you which gear you are in, right?
If so, just drive steady state at expressway speeds in whatever mode you are interested in and push the upshift paddle. If it's already in the highest gear it will allow, you won't...
I don't believe Canada has their own light duty regulations. I know they accept either EPA or CARB certifications. With that in mind, I'm pretty certain they would "accept" vehicles with or without GPFs and assume Ford would send non-GPF vehicles to Canada since they are not required there...
That WSS number is a Ford spec Another member explained that oil manufacturers can pay to have their product certified to the Ford spec, but as shown in the owner's manual, the oil only needs to meet the API specification SP which the Costco oil does.
@JPtapt Great pics. Thanks!
I checked my 21 and I assume the two bolts you take out to remove the assembly are the two circled in yellow below?
If so, the pre-25's don't have that entire black bracket circled in green below. I think this, along with whatever those bolts thread into(?) are...
🚗 Manufacturer-Initiated Recalls
Safety recalls: Automakers may initiate a voluntary recall when they identify a safety defect or potential defect in vehicles or parts. They often do this proactively to protect customers, preserve trust, and preempt liability or regulatory enforcement...
Had a similar experience with another dealership brand about 7 years ago. On a Saturday morning, a young and enthusiastic salesman tried to pressure sale me into a new vehicle that I had just test drove. I told them they couldn't sell it to me cheap enough - I wasn't in the market yet. I was...
I did a search and couldn't find reference to anything saying Costco oil doesn't meet the requirement. I don't think that's true. Maybe there is still confusion that it doesn't meet the Ford spec, but that is technically not required. That is just recommended. If you have a link that...
Sorry about that. Since it disappeared from the app, I couldn't remember if it was a recall or not. I thought it might have been, but my mistake. That's why I indicated it may not be a good example, but there are definitely voluntary recalls.
