I installed the JCR skid, and did it by driving both driver's side tires up on ramps. You could do the same thing with jack stands. I've since purchased another set of ramps (at an estate sale) which makes it easier to work underneath with both sides up.
I'm not familiar with the HRG skid...
Dominbimbo, I'm curious about what you northerners consider a "very cold morning"
I've driven vehicles at -20°F. The air fiilter iced up and the engine overheated, but we didn't lose oil.
I adopted (feed) a feral cat to help control rodents. Working well, except the cat has gotten so friendly, it wants to be a house cat. Ain't gonna happen.
I enjoyed the Moab Off Rodeo. I stayed at Warner Lake and it was beautiful and the fishing was as good as it gets. A fish on almost every cast. I'm not sure you'd want to be at that elevation this time of year. We just had a storm last night that dumped 3 inches here in the valley in...
if you live in snow country, or want to do trails, I'd highly recommend a Hi-Lift jack and Lift Mate. When you are stuck, a good jack will work wonders. Jack it up and put rocks, carpet, traction boards, logs, or whatever under the wheels to geain traction. I cut mine shorter, and took it...
I always like having a nice wench up front. Lol.
I've got a 1-1/2" lift and skids on the driver's side and cat. Still got a dent in my muffler. I've found it to be extremely capable off road. It does take some care to avoid the ruts, especially when there are rocks in the center. I put...
I found the same thing. Roof box really knocked down my gas mileage. I switched to an ATV cargo carrier in back and it hardly affects the mileage, and doesn't drag in the back on rough roads. I like carrying gas cans and propane tanks outside of the car.
I've lived in Williams and Tucson, and loved AZ, but UT has more spectacular scenery. I used to camp on the rim of Mt. Graham, and the view from up there was spectacular as well.
There is no good reason to go to a dealer for maintenance once your warrantly is up. Just read the forum for a while and you'll see how many unreputable dealers are out there. At best, they overcharge. At worst, they are incompetent, or crooks.
My F-250 Superduty has a tow mode that shifts earlier and stays in a lower gear longer. My understanding is that Sport mode does the same. That hill up to Flagstaff is long and steep. It is a challenge for any trailer. Higher octane may help, and is recommended. You are close to the limit...
I used a roof box on a trip, and my mileage suffered a lot. I bought an ATV cargo hitch rack from Harbor Freight and store things back there with no noticable difference in gas mileage. If I were you, I'd get a hitch rack for the spare, and then you'll fool people into thinking you have the...
I have a friend who paid $400 for a new key. I have a neighbor who paid $1400 when she lost both keys. It might save you a $1000 to get an extra key made. First, I think I'd follow up with the seller first to make sure they don't have the other key.
Dude, I'm talking about adding a 1/2" of lift with bigger tires. I have a 1-1/2" HRG lift and still scrape the center between the ruts occassionally. With the short wheel base of the Sport, a small difference in ground clearance makes a big difference.
My impression from reading on this...
I got the HRG 1.5" lift. I can't tell any difference in handling or ride. But, I don't drive it like a sports car. My gas mileage seems to be the same. If you want a smoother ride on and off road, go with taller tires like 235/70R17. That will give you an additional 1/2" of clearance, and...
My lifetime average is over 27 MPG. I do a 100 mile trip weekly where I drive 70 for 42 miles and the rest of the trip is between 30 and 50 mph. I usually get 32 to 34 mpg. Stop and go traffic kills my mileage, along with wind, roof rack, trailer, or off road driving. Off road, I average...
I think most folks on this forum install wider tires for looks. I don't care what my tires look like, I want them to work well off road. The trend now is big wheels with less rubber between you and the potholes. It helps with gas mileage, but makes for a much rougher ride.
My dad put wide...
I have a supermarket keychain card that I keep closest to the buttons. It helps. I wish Ford had recessed the button as they did the lock button. There was a post on this forum on how to disable the alarm. This is the first car I've ever owned that had an alarm, and after 55 years driving...
