Okay so I broke down and bought the ford accessory but now I’m concerned. The install is with adhesive tape with gaps which means dirt and road salt will get in. I want to protect my hood not rot it away. Has any one found an alternative to this?

Try a dot of silicone in the tape gap 👍

I’m pretty sure the gap was intended to prevent liquid and other matetials being trapped in there. I personally would not block it off. But that’s just me.

Mine has been on for over three years. No problems.
How do you know? I’m not worried about it sticking I’m concerned about dirt and salt getting up there and rotting the paint and hood. I plan on keeping this car for as long as I can

Sounds like your best bet would be not to install it and live with the bugs. The hood is made of aluminum so corrosion is different than if it were steel. But aluminum still forms an aluminum oxide when fresh material is exposed to air. It’s just way less aggressive compared to iron oxide (rust). I doubt anyone will know just how these vehicles fair in salty environments. I’ll find out sooner than most. They use liquid brine pre treat in Wisconsin. If it is like most vehicles I have owned, the sub frame will give out far before any visible panel rust causes a failure that prevents driving the vehicle.
