June 11 had BCM update done at dealer
June 17 transmission selector would not go into reverse until I turned the engine off and back on
June 18 parking brake would not apply and a wrench appeared and said parking brake unavailable on my driver display
June 29 while driving on the interstate my cruise control would not set. Pulled over and shut off and back on cruise worked fine afterwards.
June 30 turned into a gas station with a slight incline and my transmission acted like it was in neutral and a service engine soon appeared and disappeared on my drivers display. A second later the transmission started working fine with no further issues.

All these things have happened and went away.

If the error/warning lights came on, the codes should be stored in the computer even if the lights went away. The dealer should be able to pull the codes and determine what the problem was. Might be worth a trip back to them and point out these issues started after the BCM update.

The dealer says my battery may be faulty. Does anyone think these issues could be a bad battery? I've been using a battery maintainer for the two weeks that it sets between long drives. Could I have damaged my battery doing this?

all of the issues you experienced could be result of having a bad battery. If you have the EFB (battery) now, the Ford Recall may replace with an AGM Battery for free

the use of a battery maintainer would help your battery and typically not damage the battery unless your battery maintainer is defective

The battery maintainer is less than a year old and doesn't give any faults. My wife thinks that two weeks is too long to have it on my battery.

My Bronco Sport has about 71,000 miles on it. Would the recall have a limitation on milage? I know that's probably a dumb question but if Ford wants me to pay some crazy price I might just get one from Advance Auto and put it in myself and follow the simple reset procedure.

Recalls aren’t warranty limited.
