Our photographers just spied a new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport prototype testing in a different style of camouflage, providing a new perspective on the stance and ground clearance of the so-called Baby Bronco.

These new photos show the Bronco Sport without much of its heavy cladding. Instead, the black vinyl camouflage (mostly) sits directly over the naked sheetmetal, giving a more accurate feel for the overall package. More interesting than any styling hints that might be revealed (we’ve exposed a lot of that already), the new camouflage gives us a better sense of the front- and rear-bumper locations, and the resulting ground clearance and the approach- and departure-angles. We’re now left with a more promising sense of the kind of the terrain the Baby Bronco has been designed to handle.

At an investor meeting, a Ford executive showed a product planning blueprint that promised the Baby Bronco will be significantly more rugged than the urban-minded Escape, placing it surprisingly close to the Bronco on the image’s Urban-to-Rugged sliding scale. It is only a matter of months before we find out if this holds true.

looks like 255's on it, could very well be a 30 inch tire. I am actually impressed with how this thing is turning out.

The first test car (lower trim) rocked
225/65R17 and much lower less rugged. (Much like the Jeep Cherokee base)
odds are it has the 1.5T i4.

this car seams like it has 245/65R17 much like the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.
my guess this motor is AT LEAST the 2.0T but it COULD be the 2.3T??? PLEASE!?

I like those steelies.

I hope it will be able to at least take the Cherokee Trailhawks lunch money. That would make it a halfway decent little trail car.

Pretty obvious the driver took the pics. Ford even scoured the photos for details before releasing them. No plates on ANY of the vehicles, driver window was down but no interior pics, street sign in the back is too blurred to make out. They're pretty much telling us to not forgot about the baby Bronco shortly before the regular Bronco comes out.

And this is the first time we've seen paint. Silver with black on the front and top of the roof, but silver on the sides and back of the roof.

A few interesting things.

The stock exhaust pipes are super short and out of the way just like the bigger bronco. Those exhaust pipe extenders in the photo are just that, they keep the exhaust from camo cover/extensions.

Apparently, something special is waiting for the rear because it is consistently heavily camoed. They always hide the hump up in the roof, just after the B-pillar. Perhaps the Ford patent for the rear removable roof panel will show up. May be it's useful hauling a big Christmas tree.

The bumper camo always goes out of its way to portray the bumpers larger, lower, and uglier than they (hopefully) are. They even added to the hatch to reduce the effect. Looks like this vehicle will have good approach/departure angles once all that camo is removed. High and tight bumpers, just like the 2018 Ford meeting photos.

The steel wheels look per the Ford meeting too. For that matter, the entire vehicle looks exactly like those photos. The headlights, the edge shape of the hood, 2 rail humps in the hood, lower body creases in side/rear hatch panels, hump in the roof, ..... other than the grill says Bronco, not Ford.

Can't wait for the reveal.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Maybe the air roof panel removal was more designed for this Bronco.

Overall this looks 10 times better then the past camo vehicle. The ground clearance and approach and departure angles look good too. It's kind of surprising how big this vehicle actually is. Definitely seems more designed to take on Cherokee more then the Renegade or other smaller all wheel drives.

The wheelbase is essentially the same as the Cherokee at ~107”, but the Bronco Sport should be quite a bit shorter in overall length. I estimate about a foot shorter than the Cherokee (~170” in length). If true, this is closer to the Renegade or Compass.

I’ve measured a few of the photos and got something very similar.
Damn near identical WB to the Sister car the Ford Escape 106.7” WB.
Cherokee 106.3
Compass 103.9

But length is shorter by a bit.
177 or so?? Maybe 175?? Hard to tell with that bumper
Escape 180
Cherokee 183
Compass 174

but most of that extra length in the Cherokee is under the hood. To fit the v6. Biggest motor in the Bronco Sport will be a 2.3/2.0 (same block) so that helps.
