So I'm having my water pump done today and called for an eta as it's been almost all day.
Was told it's taking longer as they are instructed by Ford to do complete cooling flush on all Bronco 1.5's. The issue is residual engine casting sand is blowing up water pumps prematurely. If you are getting this done make sure the dealer does this or you'll be doing it gain and again.
Cheers

AH HA! My assumption has been that failed pumps were contaminating the coolant with debris. This is good info, thanks for sharing!

Why does “residual engine casting sand blowing up water pumps prematurely” sound like Ford should stop production, fix the sand issue and recall all built 1.5L vehicles to flush and replace the water pump. Even 2023 and 2024 model owners are reporting premature water pump failures so the root cause is known but remains an issue.

or instead provide an extended warranty free to 1.5L owners. Ford is not the only one with sand casting problems.

Casting sand in the 1.5L cooling system could also affect radiator and heater core and other cooling system components. Will these also prematurely fail?

Something fishy is going on with the sand info. Can’t find any official information from Ford online. Implication is Ford knows the root cause, even 2023 & 2024 owners report premature water pump failures. More information is needed on this.

What is odd is there is no other info on the internet (that I can find) regarding engine casting sand affecting Bronco Sport 1.5L models.
let's toss thermostats and water cooled turbos in the mix
might be time to be proactive in the matter an flush the system now

On over a half million Bronco Sports? Good luck with that.

resuming thought process
if casting issue regarding sand is present
would it not be a crankcase issue as well
or is this just a pump housing cast issue
seems first check might be the coolant bottle for particulate
but as Dude pointed out
serious lack of intel

Major Kong likely is correct

Info slowly coming out … service departments and the Techs are discussing the casting sand with owners when they come in for water pump leaks

so the info now seems to be spreading but details are sparse

one owner reported the cooling system was “flushed 5 times” yet the vehicle is in for a 6th water pump just recently

No confidence in the BS. On Wednesday, I went to my Honda dealer to look at the passport trailsport. Great number OTD at $44,440. So tempting but I want silver but none around. White all over the place.
Also, no new gen in '25. It will be '26.

You may well be jumping to conclusion without data on the sand issue but I’m sure that’s not the total reason for your no confidence statement.

It's not just the water pump. There are plenty of possible issues.I bought the BS because I loved the retro look. I also purchased the BS because Honda dealers had a $4k addendum sticker with ridiculous add-on items costs or I would have bought a Passport but not at over $50K. I've been an Acura/Honda guy for decades. When I went with a domestic badge, it was a Ford.
The Passport number I got was very good. Trade, Carvana, Carmax BS numbers not so much.
One breakdown and the BS is gone in a heartbeat after being fixed,

Plot twist: Your car never breaks down, and you end up owning it for the next ten years while you wait.
At maybe 3k-4k miles per, you may be right! :)
