Might be a silly question, but is a roof platform required in order to use a rooftop tent?

No I do not
That means the dynamic (in motion) weight limit on your car is 150 lbs, which greatly increases your options. Keep in mind the more weight on top the less stable your car will be in motion; I would adhere closely to Ford's published limit.

What are the advantages of a roof tent? I envision difficulty to get up there without a ladder, a high weight load on the top (roof rails rated at 200 lbs., having to dismantle the tent for any kind of grocery run, and maybe a risk of falling to the ground.

A roof tent keeps the lions out. I notice that Ford suggests changing your oil more often if you pull a trailer or have a roof cargo carrier.

I see a lot of used roof tents for sale on Craigslist here. I suspect people get tired of climbing up and down.

I don't see the advantage of a roof tent unless you're changing camps every day. I like having a tent to leave gear in while I'm out driving my Sport. I have a Springbar tent that I can set up in no time and it is absolutely bombproof. I left it overnight when winds were predicted to be 80 mph. I came back to find one stake pulled out. I did try to camp in a sheltered spot, but it was very windy that night. My bivouc tent with me in it didn't fare nearly as well.
