I'm still having a problem with updating the sync in my wife's '20 Ecosport. The Ford Owner site tells me there is a update for the sync3. My vehicle has version 3.4 21194. The owners site tells me version 3.4 22200 is an available update. I tried to load the new version with a USB and had no luck. Today I took the car to the dealer where I bought my OBX to get the update installed. They came out in about an hour and said the update was installed. When I got in my car I checked, and I still had the same version I started with. Is there a update or not? If there is why doesn't the dealer have knowledge and access to it?

I would have asked to talk to the tech to see exactly what was done however …

Sync 3.4.23188 is currently latest for bronco sport but IDK the latest for a '20 Ecosport … if you call +1 (833) 389-0848, Ford’s Sync 3 Team can tell you which is the correct version.

Thanks for that phone number Dude. I'll call them tomorrow. I assumed the info on the Ford Owners site would be current but maybe that's not the case.

That is the Ford Owners site I was referring to. They told me about the newest version for my Ecosport, but the dealer doesn't seem to have any knowledge of it. When I try to upload it by USB, I get Error Code VER_ERR08. I have no idea what that means.

Why didn't you complain to the dealer who failed to meet your expectations? Hopefully you didn't have to pay for it.

When I try to upload by USB, I get Error Code VER_ERR08. I have no idea what that means.
Let’s review your info, you stated:

1. Vehicle: ‘20 Ecosport
2. Vehicle settings shows: Sync 3.4.21194 is installed
3. Ford Owner site: states Sync 3.4.22200 is available to update

4. You precisely followed the instructions on the Ford Owner site, downloaded the Sync 3.4.22200 update to your USB Device, installed in your vehicle and you get Error Code VER_ERR08

Did I accurately capture #1-4 or is there anything else you want to add?

Error Code VER_ERR08 during a Sync update (I believe) typically means that the Module which holds the Sync Software does not have enough memory to perform the update.

Try this:

a. Perform this type of Sync Reset: Simultaneously press and hold the seek up (seek forward) and the audio unit power buttons for 2 minutes until Sync boots up. Here you hold these buttons down for the 2 minutes - you will know when its done because at 2 minutes Sync will boot up and you then release those 2 buttons.

b. Using your USB Device with the Sync 3.4.22200 update, follow Ford’s instructions to install in your ‘20 Ecosport

c. Report back here with your results.

Note: I left out other resets like Master Reset which could be performed between steps (a) and (b) which we could try if the above steps (a) and (b) results in a Error Code VER_ERR08.

You got everything correct. After going through that I decided to let my dealer do the install. I took it to them. After about an hour they came out and said the install was complete. I believe they connected to the Ford wi-fi system for the update. When I checked the vehicle it still had the original version 3-4-21194. They couldn't explain it. I'm going to re load another USB and try again. If I get the same error code, I'll contact Ford's sync team and try to get a answer.

Original bill was $172.00. I got my check back, and sent an E-Mail to the service manager. We'll see what he finds out.

If you want you can follow steps (a) and (b) in my post.

And I am not 100% certain about all causes of Error Code VER_ERR08 but I think that error can also occur by not precisely following Ford’s Sync update installation instructions. Because I am not there with you i cannot see everything you did.

I have not found a good list of all error codes and their definitions that also define the cause of the error.

Good luck!

Can’t you just set the vehicle to do the updates automatically and not have to go through all this?

Yes of course with a strong WiFi signal Sync update can be done.

remember OP said “..dealer did the Sync update … they connected to the Ford wi-fi system for the update” but OP said there was no change, his ‘20 Ecosport remained at Sync 3.4.21194 and was not updated to Sync 3.4.22200 (or later).

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.

I just talked to the Ford Sync hotline. They told me that error code VER_ERR08 has to do with the incorrect vin #. I don't know how that could happen because I didn't have to enter the vin # anywhere. The Ford Owners site has that info on file. I'll try another USB and see what happens.

Yep I got the same error on my ‘22 Badlands but that was a Navigation update in Oct 22

I suspected Ford had VIN issues with 22 models and ford eventually fixed when I showed them where the error was

I also suspect you might not be creating the USB correctly when I said earlier…
