Ford said early on that “Bronco” is going to be a brand like Lincoln and the late Mercury. They want to build stand alone Bronco brand dealerships and have multiple vehicles under the Bronco brand. The “Sport” being the first of the Bronco brand to come to market. Some people just have trouble wrapping their minds around the concept. I’ve had to point out the fact that the Ford logo is only on any Bronco branded vehicle in one location. It’s not a Ford Bronco anymore. It’s a Bronco or a Sport, both made by Ford.

Ha! I read the G6 thread. I did not know that there was that much vitriol about the Bronco Sport! I remember reading that Ford wanted to name the BS the "Scout" but International Harvester (the brand/name is now owned by VW I believe) would not let them use it because they are planning a new International Scout EV SUV. Regardless, I love my BS Outer Banks. It gets me to bike trails, drives great on Missouri gravel roads, gets me to the river bank bars, and keeps me on the road in bad weather. A Bronco is a Bronco is a Bronco. Kudos to Ford to having a Bronco Brand!

Some of the people posting in that thread seem to be suffering from some kind of vehicular insecurity.

Basing their self-worth on owning Bronco is not healthy and it clearly is not making them happy.

If the existence of the Bronco Sport is causing them mental distress because, God forbid, some random person may confuse it for a Bronco, they should consider buying something else.

I wish my only worry in life was what other people might be thinking about my car.

I'm in that thread, I think the Sport deserves to be in the Bronco family.

However after seeing the division in the fan base, I now believe having a different name would be better.

I think I said Escape Wilderness in the B6G thread. It would be the same great vehicle but you wouldn't have so much hate and derision directed at it. I don't think it would have hurt sales either, Ford sells a ton of Escapes.

I was telling the wife that I miss driving the Sport sometimes. After driving a body on frame 5000lb Bronco, the zippy, nimble Sport would be good change of pace.

OTOH, driving a manual transmission Bronco makes me think of how much fun a manual transmission Sport would be.

It’s intersting how this is an ongoing topic on there and in here. I guess people are insecure by nature and seek validation in different ways.

Big Bronco people more power to them you have a fine rig for all those speed bumps by the grocery store and baby bronco people, we have a fine rig we can’t take rock crawling in Moab.

Then there is the average person who thinks a Bronco is a Bronco they not aware there is unibody small SUV and a full size full frame version they still think its one version.

This is what I think most of the 6G people get upset about. When random people at the mall comment that they thought the Bronco was much smaller because they saw a BS and thought it was a 6G. That wouldn't bother me and it shouldn't them because most of those people at the mall probably think its a Jeep as well. It does bother me though when people who drive a BS put Sasquatch stickers and emblems on the BS, because that has nothing to do with a BS.

It would not be as popular being called an Escape Wilderness. And, the Escape name is not synonymous with offroading and adventure, which is what Ford wants people to think about with this junior ute. So, from a marketing and sales pespective, it is a very bad idea to call it anything associated with Escape.

The whole point of calling it a Bronco Sport was/is to extend the Bronco brand, which (obviously) still carries a ton of weight despite being out of production for such a long time. The Escape has very little brand weight. Additionally, it couldn't carry additional sales with a variant (with the possible exception of a BEV variant), it would scavenge sales from the Escape and you would likely be close to net net the same.

The BS fits nicely as an entree into the Bronco brand for people who want/need a dual purpose (on road/offroad) vehicle. If you want a hard core offroader, you get the Bronco. So, they fit. The fact that many people bought one of each should tell you something.

We all have our pet peeves, don't we? I hate it when I mention Star Wars and someone says, "Oh, is that the one about Captain Picard shooting lasers at Klingons?"

Ok ya, that does say you bought the wrong car or couldn’t get the one you wanted and are kinda compensating

So, you guys think I'm subconsciously wishing my BS was a "BIG" Bronco cause I put a Bronco emblem on the back of it?
