FORD BRONCO SPORT, MUSTANG MACH-E SHINE IN J.D. POWER APEAL STUDY; JUDGES RECOGNIZE COMPANY’S FRESHEST LINEUP, LAUNCHES

SEP 15, 2021 | DEARBORN, MICH.

  • All-new Ford Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E earned top spots in their respective categories in the J.D. Power 2021 APEAL Study, beating their segment competition in nearly every area – Ford Bronco Sport took first place in the Small SUV category while Mustang Mach-E was named top Compact SUV.
  • Ford was recognized for having one of the youngest portfolios in the industry, with an average vehicle age of 1.5 versus the mass market age of 3.1
  • Overall, the Ford brand improved by five index points, maintaining its historic lead over the mass market average

Dearborn, Mich., Sept 15, 2021 – The all-new Ford Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E earned the top spots in their respective segments in the J.D. Power 2021 APEAL Study, and Ford also received recognition from the group for its young lineup and significant launches.

Now in its 26th year, the J.D. Power’s 2021 APEAL study measures owners’ emotional attachment and level of excitement across 37 attributes, ranging from the power they feel when they step on the accelerator to the sense of comfort and luxury they feel when climbing into the driver’s seat.

The Ford Bronco Sport took first place in the Small SUV category, while Mustang Mach-E was voted top Compact SUV. Both models beat their segment competition in nearly every category, from exterior to powertrain to driving comfort.

The study also noted that most Ford models match or exceed their segment average.

“Ford very much believes in listening to its customers,” said Chris Brewer, executive director, quality, Ford Motor Company. “These vehicles were created to delight and impress them every time they get behind the wheel. We’re honored by this award. It tells us we’re delivering on their wants and needs.”

Ford also was recognized for having one of the youngest portfolios in the industry, with an average vehicle age of 1.5 years versus the mass market age of 3.1.

In addition, the study showed the Ford brand improved by five index points, maintaining its historic lead over the mass market average. Judges noted the brand score was helped by the company’s emphasis on higher-performing vehicles like Super Duty, F-150 and Bronco Sport.

Not surprised. There's just something about the Bronco Sport. It's steadily climbed my list off all-time favorite vehicles. The appreciation I have for this vehicle just keeps growing. I have the BL and it's prowess off-road is impressive and on-road in wet and snowy conditions is super impressive also. Ford hit a homerun in my book with our BS's!

bronco sport is just an all around perfect commuter for us. feels tough and solid, great offroad capability, cargo capacity and fuel economy. and now with a big fat dog on the way, gonna need that space hahaha.
it also got us motivated to get out and explore more. absolutely zero regrets.
good job ford !!!

Agreed. They took some big risks in their recent Bronco, Maverick and electric segments. It's paying off and I hope they bring some of their fresh ideas to their existing lineup. We all know the Ford Escape and Ford Ranger sure could use some personality.

I wonder how Ford will refresh the Escape lineup now that Bronco Sport and Maverick are rolling off the line. Other than AWD hybrid with great fuel economy, what's the point of the Escape right now? The dealers in my area were discounting them heavily even when inventory was tightening earlier this year...

Although something of a 'sleeper' next to the high-profile Broncos and electric vehicles, I'm digging the Explorer Timberline in dark green. If I needed more capacity with creature comforts and some off-road capabilities, it'd be on my shortlist.

Ya the Escape keeps losing its appeal by the day it seems. Regardless Ford will want to keep it going since that segment is so competitive. They need to have an offering for consumers. They just need to separate themselves more. Right now the Escape is too conservative in its interior. It's passable but there's nothing that pops out and says "WOW I know I'm sitting in an Escape" vs say the Bronco Sport's amazing seat color choices, the F150's King Ranch or the Ford MachE. Reliability seems to be an issue with the newer Escapes as well which is unfortunate.

Ya the Explorer Timberline looks intriguing. I wish it had a few more color choices (Area 51 or Anti-matter blue perhaps?) but I can understand since it's a new trim they have to limit choice. I LOVE the extra headlights in the grill on the Timberline. I wish more Ford grills had that option. It's practical, sleek, and not as bulky as other 3rd party light options.

It's a good sign to see Ford releasing the Splash Edition of the Ford Ranger. It shows they are willing to release more unique and dynamic colors and appearance packages to their rather bland normal vehicles. It may also be testing their consumers to see the demand. I hope these releases go well !

I love my bronco sport also. It’s one of the few cars I have owned I really love. My other car loved was a 2000 Chevy Silverado standard cab with the 5.3 liter vortex motor. I miss that truck. I happened to hit black ice in it and down an embankment and hit a power pole. But I survived that crash

I knew I loved my Bronco Sport, but I didn’t realize how much until it was destroyed in a six-car freeway crash two weeks ago (less than five months after I bought it) and I haven’t stopped crying since them.

Oh that’s terrible! Glad you’re ok. You can always get another BS, but not another you!

Thanks for the thoughts. Unfortunately, no, I actually can’t get another one, at least not what I had. We’ve literally scoured listings all over the country and there are none. When I try to do build and price on the Ford site, it won’t let me add all the packages I had on mine for some reason.

The Ford site still has the 2021 builds for some reason. What packages did you have on your Badlands? Unfortunately Rapid Red was discontinued and replaced with Hot Pepper Red for MY22.

But otherwise you should be able to get the same stuff -- even if it takes awhile for Ford to actually assemble.
