Took the Bronco to the mountains! I went up a trail to Goose Lake here in Red River. Online and at the trailhead, it is rated as moderate to difficult. I was very impressed with how the Bronco handled everything.
The trail begins with a fairly deep river crossing. After that, it is a narrow single lane sandy/rocky/muddy trail that is about 7 miles up to the top. It was a beautiful day for a drive! The only other vehicles I saw at the top that were not Jeeps or side by sides, were a couple of lifted pickups, a Jeep Cherokee, and a Toyota Land Cruiser. On the way up, I had one person stop and tell me to turn around…he was concerned I would pop a tire on the sharp rocks…then he noticed the tires I had (KO2s) and he said oh you’ll be fine lol.
Everyone at the top was checking out my Bronco and asking questions. They all seemed pretty impressed and thought it was pretty cool. One thing I thought was funny was that a couple of guys just wanted to know where the bottle opener was lol. It was a fun time!
I have the 1 1/4 lift from @FordBroncoLifts, thanks Robby! and 245/65/17 BFG KO2s. Other than that, it’s all stock. I drove in rock crawl mode all the way up and down. It worked flawlessly, was able to keep a low speed and didn’t slip once. Also no overheating issues on the rear diff. There were a few spots where I scraped a rock underneath but it wasn’t anything bad at all. The lift and tire combo was perfect! I also tried out trail control and found that it was very helpful at times, especially on the way down, being able to keep a set speed and not constantly riding the brake.
Crossing the river at trailhead. I will post video of crossing later.
I didn’t get any pictures of the really rocky areas, but I will upload or post a link to my dash cam video once I get back and get it downloaded to my computer.
Parking lot at end of trail.
Goose Lake
Dad and I (and some random guy lol)
Hiked to the top, looking down at lake. If you zoom in, you can see the Bronco in parking lot.
some cabins I saw along the way
Back at the bottom/start of trail. About to cross river again.
Got a little dirty.
Back at motel, what a fun day!
Here is a video of crossing the river.
